Sergios Theodoridis
Professor, Chairman of the Board
Sergios Theodoridis is Professor Emeritus of Signal Processing and Machine Learning in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Also, he holds a Distinguished Professor Chair in Aalborg University, Denmark. He was a holder of a part time Chair in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China, 2017-2019. His research interests lie in the areas of Adaptive-Online Algorithms, Distributed and Sparsity-Aware Learning, Machine Learning, and fMRI data analysis.
Alexandros Charalambides
Associate Professor
Dr Alexandros Charalambides is a Mechanical Engineering graduate and holds a PhD from Imperial College London. His PhD project was funded by Honda R & D Co, Ltd of Japan. He has worked at Imperial College London, at the University of Tokyo and on his return to Cyprus, at the Energy Service of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. In 2009, he was appointed at the Department of Environmental Science and Technology and his research interests lie in the fields of solar energy, algal biofuel production and energy saving in buildings.
Despina Michael
Associate Professor
Despina Michael-Grigoriou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of CUT, and the founding director of the Microsoft Computer Games and Emerging Technologies Research Lab – GET Lab (http://getlab.org), established with seed funding from Microsoft. She coordinates, the inter-university postgraduate programme “MSc in Design and Development of Computer Games and Interactive Technologies”.
Dimitris Tsaltas
Associate Professor
Dr Dimitris Tsaltas is an Associate Professor of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science at Cyprus University of Technology. He is a founding member of the Cyprus University of Technology since early days in 2007. He has a BSc in Agricultural Sciences and an MSc in Plant Protection from the Agricultural University of Athens. He gained his PhD from Imperial College London in Molecular Plant Pathology and continued his postdoctoral training at the University of Connecticut (USA) in Molecular Microbiology.
Stylianos Yiatros
Associate Professor
Stylianos (or Stelios, as he is most commonly known) is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology, since October 2011. Stelios has also been a Marie Curie Fellow at Cranfield Energy of Cranfield University in the UK (2015-2017). His research interests include modelling instabilities in thin-walled, sandwich and laminated structures, Biomimetic design, sustainable construction and engineering sustainability.
Marinos Koutsomichalis
Assistant Professor, Acting Director of SCRC
Dr Marinos Koutsomichalis is a an Assistant Professor in Creative Multimedia where he co-directs the Media Arts and Design Research Lab. He has a PhD in Electronic Music and New Media (De Montfort University, UK) and a MA in Music Composition with Digital Media (University of York, UK).
Paschalia Spyridou
Assistant Professor
Paschalia (Lia) Spyridou is Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Communication at Cyprus University of Technology. She holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Media from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an MA in Communication from the University of Westminster, and received her PhD in Journalism and New Media from the Aristotle University. In 2012 she received a postdoctoral scholarship from the Research Committee of the Aristotle University for her work on participatory journalism. Dr. Spyridou is a member of the Editorial Board of Digital Journalism (2020 – today) and contributed in the Greek edition of UNESCO’s Handbook on “Journalism, Fake News and Disinformation” (2021). She was the local scientific coordinator of two Erasmus+ projects (ΜΑΤΕ and MediaLab) and worked as a researcher in H2020 RePAST project. She is currently coordinating the H2020 DEMOTEC project, which focuses on participatory budgeting, including the role of journalism in mediating democratic innovations.
Herodotos Herodotou
Assistant Professor
Dr. Herodotos Herodotou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics at the Cyprus University of Technology, where he is leading the Data Intensive Computing Research Lab. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Duke University in May 2012.
Special Teaching Staff
Antigoni is a Special Teaching Staff, she holds a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Cyprus, an MA in Pedagogical Sciences from the same University and a PhD from the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology. Her PhD dissertation focused on the potential of social technologies as instructional tools that support social construction of an artifact by a group of language learners. Her research interests include the ways collaborative learning environments –in and out of classroom, online and face to face– can be designed for supporting social constructionist learning and the use of technology for supporting language learning (Computer-Assisted Language Learning).
